About the Session
The term ‘student experience’ was coined almost 30 years ago, in 1992. A lot has changed since then – from conscious campuses to hyper-individualization; universities must adapt to serve a new generation of international students. Pandemials are here, and the most successful universities will be listening to what they have to say.

Wendy is an academic and thought leader of repute, Professor Purcell joined Harvard University in 2016, to explore leadership and governance with a focus on universities and colleges. Drawing on her experience as a President Vice-Chancellor at Plymouth University, she is interested in how education is positioning itself in the face of disruption and its role in driving social inclusion and sustainable growth. Her book on ‘Leadership disrupted’ is scheduled for publication in 2018. Wendy has wide-ranging international experience having set up educational partnerships across five continents.

Juan is the president of the Erasmus Student Network. He is 27 and comes from Spain. He has a bachelor’s degree in Law from the University of Oviedo and is currently finishing two Master’s in International Law and European Studies. Juan did his Erasmus exchange in Istanbul and also participated in the European Solidarity Corps in Padova. He has been president of ESN Spain and Liaison Officer for Inclusive mobility of the Erasmus Student Network. As president, he is responsible for the general coordination of the organisation, external relations, policy, and advocacy. His main priorities include increasing participation in learning mobility and fostering civic engagement and participation of young people in democratic life through the Erasmus programme.

Thijs is Director Analytics and Consulting Team at Studyportals since 2015 and partner of iE&D Solutions BV since 2006. Some of his recent clients are: University of London, Karolisnka Institute, University of Groningn, Utrecht University, Erasmus University Rotterdam, Jönköping University, Uppsala University, VU University Amsterdam, Radboud University, University of Twente, University of the Arctic, Tromsø University, College of Europe and NHTV Breda University. From 1989 until 2005 Thijs worked for Tilburg University (14 yrs; NL), the ERASMUS Bureau in Brussels and for Sheffield Hallam University (1.5 yrs; UK).
Thijs is the founder of the Professional Section on Marketing & Recruitment of the European Association for International Education (EAIE). He was the chair of M&R from 2002 until 2008 and was a member of EAIE’s Executive Board from 2004 until 2008. In 2006 he published a book on The Impact of Tuition Fees on International Student Recruitment and in September 2009, Thijs was awarded the Bo Gregersen Award for Best Practice of the EAIE.

Jack is a Partnerships Manager at Unibuddy, where he works with Universities to harness the voice of student advocates and meet their various recruitment goals. Jack has an extensive Higher Education background, having spent over 10 years working for Universities in recruitment, business development and programme delivery roles. Jack’s previous role was at London Business School, where he was responsible for building and establishing their suite of London-based experiential programmes.

Anthony has two decades of experience in marketing education globally. Formerly the Global Digital Marketing Director at Study Group, he led teams in Singapore, Shanghai, Sydney, New York & the UK recruiting students for Universities in the USA, Australia and Europe. Before this, Anthony established the digital marketing footprint for INTO University Partnerships. A platform, channel and technology strategist Anthony specialises in International digital student recruitment. Anthony has lectured on digital marketing to universities for The EAIE, British Council, ICEF, DAAD, CASE and NAFSA. Anthony studied Digital Disruption Strategy at Oxford University and is a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Marketing.
