2020 has been a game-changer: student mobility has been largely affected, and student interest in Australia and New Zealand has changed as well. Students have been browsing online and considering options abroad for their studies; now that marketing and recruitment have moved mostly online it is crucial to keep a finger on the pulse of student interest.
The webinar will drive you through long-term changes and sudden shocks, trying to make sense of what has been a complex year: keeping the focus on Australia and New Zealand, as the destinations, and summarising the core changes for international student interest by subject area and countries of origin.

Speakers
Thijs is Director Analytics and Consulting Team at Studyportals since 2015 and partner of iE&D Solutions BV since 2006. Some of his recent clients are: University of London, Karolisnka Institute, University of Groningn, Utrecht University, Erasmus University Rotterdam, Jönköping University, Uppsala University, VU University Amsterdam, Radboud University, University of Twente, University of the Arctic, Tromsø University, College of Europe and NHTV Breda University. From 1989 until 2005 Thijs worked for Tilburg University (14 yrs; NL), the ERASMUS Bureau in Brussels and for Sheffield Hallam University (1.5 yrs; UK).
Thijs is the founder of the Professional Section on Marketing & Recruitment of the European Association for International Education (EAIE). He was the chair of M&R from 2002 until 2008 and was a member of EAIE’s Executive Board from 2004 until 2008. In 2006 he published a book on The Impact of Tuition Fees on International Student Recruitment and in September 2009, Thijs was awarded the Bo Gregersen Award for Best Practice of the EAIE.
Phil has been IEAA's Chief Executive Officer since November 2011. Previously, he was a Member of the Victorian State Parliament (1988–2006), Minister for Tertiary Education, Training and Multicultural Affairs (1996–1999) and Deputy Leader of the Opposition (2002–2006).
Since retiring from politics, Phil worked at Stott’s Business College and Cambridge International College.
Brett is Director International at The University of Auckland, where he leads international strategy and operations. With over 25 years’ experience in the sector, in Europe, the US, and Asia, as academic staff and administrator leading international recruitment strategy, transnational education, ESL provision, campus-wide internationalisation strategy, and credit mobility. His most recent publication is Crawford, P. & Berquist, B. (Eds.) (2020). Community Engagement Abroad: Perspectives and practices on service, engagement, and learning overseas.
